The capital and largest city of Poland, which stands on the Vistula River, was once known as ‘the Paris of the East’. A walk along the lively Nowy Świat street reveals why. The city was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, today, however, the rebuilt modern Warsaw proudly shows its double face – the old exists side by side with the new, the traditional with the fashionable, the rich with the poor. The city is at its liveliest in the summer when the green riverside parks are full of people and pleasant bars feature live music, the fun lasting well into the night.
