The Maldives is an archipelagic state in the Indian Ocean comprised of 1192 islands spread across a chain of 26 atolls . The capital of the Maldives makes for a great starting point of a tour of the Maldives, as Malé has an international airport. The eponymous island is the most populous island in the archipelago with tall skyscrapers, wide streets and avenues. The city is built in a mesh pattern, which makes it easy to find your way around the streets and almost impossible to get lost.

The Maldives' official religion is Islam, so there are some laws and rules to follow. In Malé, the dress codes is more limited than on the other islands and women in particular need to wear more conservative clothing with as little bare skin shown as possible. Male Airport

Male Velana International Airport is the main international airport in the Maldives. It is located on Hulhulé Island in the North Malé Atoll, near the capital island of Malé. Male Airport is the tourists’ main gateway to the Maldives. There is no road access to the airport, you can get there from Male by water ferry or air.
