The summer timetable begins on Sunday, March 31, and will remain in effect until October 26. Traffic at Ljubljana Airport is seasonal, with passenger numbers starting to steeply rise in spring and reaching their peak in the summer months, when at least twice as many passengers travel from the airport as in winter. This summer season will offer a more diverse range of flights, both in terms of destinations and flight frequency. At the peak of the season, 22 regular carriers will be offering more than 150 flights per week to 25 destinations.

In the first days of the summer timetable, several connections will return to Ljubljana Airport after the winter break: Finnair flights to Helsinki commence on April 1, Aegean Airlines to Athens on April 5 and Transavia to Paris Orly on April 5. Some carriers will strengthen their operations compared to last summer. Lufthansa will start providing two daily flights to Munich in May. Air Montenegro will also fly to Podgorica during the summer months (previously, the connection alternated with flights to Tivat). Flights by Air Serbia to Belgrade and Transavia France to Paris Orly will be more frequent as well. British Airways will fly daily to London Heathrow, as will Brussels Airlines to Brussels. The Wizz Air connection to Skopje, introduced last year, will be reinforced with an additional weekly flight.

New flights: Riga, Copenhagen, and Madrid

Passengers will soon be able to enjoy new connections from Ljubljana Airport. First, on April 25, airBaltic will launch flights to Riga, connecting Slovenia with Latvia twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday. Norwegian's new connection to Copenhagen will start on April 29. Flights to Denmark will be available twice a week, initially on Mondays and Fridays, and during the peak summer season on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The carrier will also offer good onward connections through Copenhagen Airport, the largest hub in Northern Europe. Another new connection will be Iberia's to Madrid, starting on July 29 with two flights a week through August.

All flights available in the summer timetable for 2024 are scheduled with the following flight frequencies:

• Finnair four times weekly to Helsinki,
• GP Aviation twice weekly to Pristina,
• Iberia twice weekly to Madrid,
• Israir three times weekly to Tel Aviv,
• LOT Polish Airlines nine times weekly to Warsaw,
• Lufthansa three times daily to Frankfurt and twice daily to Munich,
• Luxair twice weekly to Luxembourg,
• Norwegian twice weekly to Copenhagen,
• SWISS Airlines eleven times weekly to Zurich,
• Transavia four times weekly to Amsterdam,
• Transavia France four times weekly to Paris Orly,
• Turkish Airlines twice daily to Istanbul, and
• Wizz Air three times weekly to Skopje.

Via the biggest hubs to the world

The summer season of 2024 will offer the most diverse selection of regular airlines to date. Ljubljana Airport will be connected to many of the busiest airports in Europe and globally: Frankfurt, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Paris Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow, Dubai, Munich, Madrid, London Gatwick, Athens, Paris Orly, Zurich, and Copenhagen (according to Airport Council International report on airport connectivity from June 2023).

The network will also be strengthened with more frequent connections to European hubs. Slovenia's air connectivity is steadily and noticeably improving. With a rich offering of charter flights to holiday destinations, Ljubljana Airport's offering is rounded out for all types of passengers," said Fraport Slovenija's Managing Director, Dr. Babett Stapel, at the unveiling of the summer timetable.

To 57 attractive holiday destinations

Flight forecasts to holiday destinations also indicate a diverse offering of charter flights. Among them, the most popular destinations will be on Greek islands, in Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Spain, and France, as well as other attractive summer locations. Tour operators have announced charter flights to a total of 57 destinations:

• Greece (Heraklion, Karpathos, Kefalonia, Kos, Lesbos, Patras, Lefkada, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini, Thessaloniki, Zakynthos, Chania, Araxos),
• Spain (Albacete, Asturias, Barcelona, Bilbao, Canary Islands, La Rioja, Madrid, Menorca, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Pamplona, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, Valladolid, Vitoria, Zaragoza, Girona),

• Turkey (Antalya),
• Tunisia (Djerba, Monastir),
• Egypt (Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh),

Passenger numbers increasing sharply

From the beginning of January to the end of February, over 161,000 passengers travelled through Ljubljana Airport. Compared to the same period last year, this represents a growth of more than 31 percent, with similar prospects for March.

Major project underway on manoeuvring areas

Ljubljana Airport has a busy period not only in terms of passenger traffic. One of the largest investment projects on the manoeuvring areas of the airport in the last 10 years is in full swing, worth 6.2 million euros. Fraport Slovenija will completely renovate the existing section of taxiway A and construct a new, additional section called taxiway J. With the new taxiway, in accordance with modern standards, an adequate turning point for the largest aircraft will be ensured on the western edge of the runway. Construction and installation works are expected to be completed by the end of June, after which lighting programming will commence. The new taxiway J, with obtained operational permit, will be fully operational by the end of the year.
