Finnair back with flights to Helsinki

11. 4. 2023

Finnair is coming back to Ljubljana Airport after three years. Today, on April 10, the carrier is re-establishing flights to Helsinki. It will be connecting Slovenia to Finland four times weekly. In the summer schedule 18 regular carriers will be offering flights to 21 destinations. A novelty will be welcomed in June, when Aegean Airlines is introducing flights to Athens.

It will again be possible to spot aircraft of Finnair at Ljubljana Airport. After a three-year break – the Finnish carrier last took off from Ljubljana Airport in October 2019, Slovenia will be once more directly connected to Finland. Through its home hub Helsinki Vantaa, Finnair will be also offering passengers convenient connecting flights to Asia. Flights will be available every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with departure from Ljubljana Airport scheduled for 9:25 and arrival in Helsinki scheduled for 13:05 local time, after a flight time of two hours and 40 minutes. Finnair will be operating the flights with an Airbus A319.

»We are very happy to see Finnair back after three years and that the carrier has placed Ljubljana Airport again on its route map. These flights will bring Slovenia and Finland closer together for leisure and business travelers, and following the relaxation of travelling limitations in Asian countries an important bridge is being rebuilt to enable the return of tourists from Asia to Slovenia,« said the Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija, Dr Babett Stapel, upon Finnair's return.

“Passenger traffic has been recovering well in the first three months of 2023, and with every new week of the summer schedule it will become livelier. Recently our flight network has been enriched with three connections – Amsterdam, London Heathrow and Priština, and the number of weekly flights to Brussels, Zurich and Warsaw has grown. Soon we are expecting more frequent flights to Frankfurt, and until the summer connections to Paris Orly, Tivat, and Tel Aviv will return. Also, we will greet new flights to Athens. In peak summer season more than 130 flights per week will be available from Ljubljana Airport,« added Dr Stapel.

Recently, on March 26, following a winter break British Airways and Transavia have returned with flights to London Heathrow and Amsterdam. The carrier GP Aviation established flights to Priština on March 31. The summer flight network still has to be enriched with Transavia France's flights to Paris Orly, Air Montenegro's flights to Tivat and Israir Airlines' flights to Tel Aviv. Aegean Airlines will establish new flight to Athens in June.
