Recently the offer of flights from Ljubljana Airport has been enriched with the re-established connection to Tel Aviv, which is being operated up to five times weekly by carriers Israir Airlines, El Al and Sundor. In April, Transavia France brought back flights to Paris Orly and Finnair re-established flights to Helsinki. Carrier Air Montenegro will soon again offer seasonal flights to Tivat. In the summer timetable two novelties will be introduced. Aegean Airlines is establishing new flights to Athens on June 6, which will be operated twice weekly, every Tuesday and Friday. Wizz Air yesterday announced it will start operating a new connection to Skopje. The low-cost carrier will start flying to Macedonia on September 27 three times weekly, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. New flights will be a welcome addition to the flights offered to the Balkans, for all passenger segments – leisure, business and ethnic travel.

With more frequent flights to important hubs the possibilities to fly all over the world are increasing. Lufthansa has strengthened its service to Frankfurt to three daily flights, including an early morning one. In the summer schedule frequencies to other hubs have been increased as well, namely to Istanbul, Paris, Warsaw and Brussels.

Altogether 18 regular airlines will be offering 22 connections in the summer schedule, with the below number of frequencies:  

• Air Serbia twice daily to Belgrade and twice weekly to Niš,
• Aegean Airlines twice weekly to Athens,
• Brussels Airlines six times weekly to Brussels,
• flydubai four times weekly to Dubai,
• Finnair four times weekly to Helsinki,
• Lufthansa three times daily to Frankfurt and daily to Munich,
• Turkish Airlines up to twice daily to Istanbul,
• easyJet up to six times weekly to London, Gatwick,
• British Airways six times weekly to London Heathrow,
• Wizz Air three times weekly to London, Luton and three times weekly to Skopje.
• Transavia up to four times weekly to Amsterdam,
• Transavia France twice weekly to Paris, Orly,
• Air France eleven times weekly to Paris,
• Israir/El Al/Sundor up to five times weekly to Tel Aviv,
• Air Montenegro three times weekly to Podgorica and four times weekly to Tivat (exchanging connections),
• LOT Polish Airlines nine times weekly to Warsaw,
• SWISS Airlines nine times weekly to Zurich and
• GP Aviation twice weekly to Pristina.

 
51% growth of passengers from January to April

In April, more than 95,000 passengers travelled through Ljubljana Airport, which is 36% more than in the same month last year. In the period from January to April, 2023 a 51% growth in passenger numbers has been recorded compared to the same period of last year. The growth is expected to continue. In May, over 100,000 passengers are expected to be handled.

Some connections already surpassing the numbers of passengers from 2019

Although passenger traffic altogether is still lagging behind compared to the pre-Covid levels, on some connections the numbers of passengers have already surpassed those from 2019, namely on flights to Istanbul, Paris, Belgrade and Warsaw. With increasing flight frequencies, it can be expected that the number of passengers to Brussels, Zurich and Frankfurt will fully recover soon as well. 

»Before the peak of the summer season regular airlines have strengthened the flight network with additional frequencies and re-established connections. With rising demand, we have recorded 51% more passengers in the period from January to April. In the next months the growth is expected to continue, by estimations we will surpass 100,000 passengers in May. Especially encouraging is the performance of some connections, which are already above the levels that had been recorded in 2019. These are Istanbul, Paris, Belgrade and Warsaw. Close to a full recovery are also connections to Brussels, Zurich and Frankfurt, « said the Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija Dr Babett Stapel. 

A rich offer of charter flights

In the coming months an abundant offer of charter flights to holiday destinations, especially to the Mediterranean, will add to the vibrant traffic. Charter flights will be operated to the most popular destinations on the Greek islands, in Egypt, Turkey and Spain. During the rest of the year holiday packages with travel agencies will also be available to Malta, Madeira, the Azores, Porto, Iceland, Cape Verde islands, Barcelona, Sevilla, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Lourdes, Split, Tivat, Tenerife, Tunisia, Jordan, the Netherlands, Riga, Palermo, Morocco, Manchester, Cologne and Rovaniemi.
