British Airways, the founding member of the Oneworld alliance, has returned with flights between Ljubljana Airport and London Heathrow on May 24. The airline will offer five weekly flights, with departures to London in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and in the evening on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Flights will be operated by Airbus A320 and A321.

This connection is a valuable addition to our route network. We expect strong demand in both ways – tourists coming to see what beautiful Slovenia has to offer and passengers flying to discover Great Britain.”

Besides British Airways, two low-cost carriers are offering flights from Ljubljana Airport to London as well. Wizz Air is operating three weekly flights to London Luton and easyJet is offering six weekly flights to London Gatwick.

• Air Montenegro three times weekly to Podgorica,
• Air Serbia eleven times weekly to Belgrade and twice weekly to Niš,
• Brussels Airlines five times weekly to Brussels,
• flydubai four times weekly to Dubai,
• LOT Polish Airlines six times weekly to Warsaw,
• Lufthansa twice daily to Frankfurt and daily to Munich,
• Swiss International Airlines daily to Zurich,
• Transavia three times weekly to Amsterdam, 
• Transavia France twice weekly to Paris, Orly,
• Turkish Airlines ten times weekly to Istanbul,
• Wizz Air twice weekly to Brussels Charleroi. 

In the Summer Schedule we also expect Air Montenegro to establish flights to Tivat and Israir to Tel Aviv.

Recovery in line with forecasts

Traffic at Ljubljana Airport is getting more and more lively. The positive growth trend in the number of handled passengers continues - in the first four months of 2022, seven times more passengers (198,079) travelled through Ljubljana Airport than in the same period last year. This significant recovery in the last months has been fuelled by easing of entry limitations in European countries and increasing demand for flights. Also, the charter season has had a strong start in April. The volume of passenger traffic in the first four months of 2022 represents 40% of handled traffic in the comparable period of 2019, that is before the Covid-19 pandemic. This recovery is in line with Fraport Slovenija’s forecasts and comparable to the recovery in “pure" international air traffic in Europe. Ljubljana Airport might have a slower growth of passenger traffic than some other airports, but this is due to a very different traffic structure. There are no mass tourism products in Slovenia, it lacks domestic and ethnic traffic.

According to current forecasts, around 880,000 passengers will travel through Ljubljana Airport this year, which is a 104 percent increase compared to last year, but still 49 percent less than in 2019. ACI World foresees passenger traffic to recover fully to the levels it had been recording before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2026. The same forecasts stand for Ljubljana Airport, if circumstances are favourable.
