Airport closure planned due to renovation work

We have planned the closure of the airport to all traffic for 15 days from 7 to 21 April 2010. The final decision on the closure will shortly be issued by the Ministry of Transport. Aeroplanes will fly from alternative airports during the period. In April, Aerodrom Ljubljana will be dealing with the third, main stage of runway renovation. The first and second stages renovation of the east and west part of the runway were successfully completed this summer when the airport operated with a shortened, 2,100 metre-long section. It was announced in the summer that the renovation of the runways central section would probably require closing the airport. Most flights will be directed from Ljubljana to Maribor airport during the renovation period, where Adria Airways which carries 75% of all passenger traffic at Brnik will relocate for the period. Adria Airways has organised a free bus service between Ljubljana and Maribor for all passengers. The schedule has been published on its website www.adria.si . Additional information is available from the Passenger Relations Centre at the number 080 13 00. Turkish Airlines will also fly to Maribor over the period. Passengers can call +386 4 20 61 680 or use the email address thyljubljana@siol.com for more information. Air France will fly from Trieste over the period passengers should call the Air France office on + 386 1 24 43 446 for more information. ČSA Czech Airlines and easyJet have cancelled all flights from Slovenia over the period. We are still waiting for official flight information from JAT Airways for the period, but their initial comment indicated they would fly from Portorož airport. Passengers should contact air carriers directly for all additional information and ticket reservations. Contact information can be found on our website . Passengers arriving or travelling during the airport closure will be entitled to park free-of-charge in the outdoor car park (P2). To do so passengers must identify themselves at the car park cash desk with a travel certificate (airline ticket, eticket or entry voucher) and a personal document. Aerodrom Ljubljana and the airlines will post timely notices of all changes for passengers on their websites and through the media. Difficulties or a negative impact on air traffic regularity are not expected. Nevertheless, they wish to apologise in advance to passengers for any inconveniences and ask for their understanding. Brnik, 5 March 2010

New IT facilities

With the aim of lowering costs, increasing reliability and improving user experiences, several new IT services have been introduced recently at the airport. To some extent these are the fruit of in-house knowledge among the staff at Aerodrom Ljubljana, and of good cooperation between employees and external contractors. In this way, the first few days of this year saw the successful conclusion of a virtualisation project and optimisation of the server infrastructure. The project achieved simpler administration of the IT infrastructure, greater reliability and operative availability, significantly lower costs for purchasing the actual system and approximately halved costs for purchasing subsequent licences, maintenance and energy. This ranks Ljubljanas Jože Pučnik Airport among those using the very latest technology to support their IT systems, both in Slovenia and around the world . This is also recognised by the Microsoft company, which is presenting the state-of-the-art and energy-efficient virtualisation of our data system as a model project. Alongside the virtualisation project and optimisation of the server infrastructure, processes in the air cargo warehouse have also been automated. Numerous air cargo consignments are composed of various groups of items supported by different support processes in the supply chain. For this reason, with the overhauling of warehousing processes, the exchanging of documents in electronic form was introduced, together with the objective of paper-free warehouse operations, which will depend on the others involved in the supply chain. Currently the required messages about current status of consignments and electronic cargo manifests are already being sent automatically. In the future they are seeking to join the e-freight air cargo network, which was created as a pilot project by the IATA. Currently the airport has also been testing overhauled software for displaying data on public information monitors intended to provide information to passengers and visitors about traffic at the airport. The overhaul means upgraded functionality for the IT system, and users will see the difference primarily in the greater accessibility and readability of information. Zg.
